Choose the Right AI Web Development Tool: 4 Questions Developers Should Ask First (Using HugWeb as an Example)

Picture this. You open a chat and type, "Build me a website for a coffee shop." A few minutes later there is a page in front of you, with photos, text and a contact button, and it looks better than you expected. Everyone smiles at this point, but most developers ask the next question in their head right away: tomorrow the client wants a different colour, another page, or to move the site to a different host. Can we do that?

That question is why AI website tools look identical in a demo and feel very different in real use. In this article, Superdev Academy walks through four questions we think developers should ask before choosing one, using HugWeb, a tool that builds websites through chat, as the worked example. We read its homepage and its terms of use so you do not have to start from zero.

Why not just write the site yourself?

You can, and often it is the cheapest route. If the site needs member accounts, business logic of its own, or you want control over every layer of the stack, opening a project and writing it yourself with an AI assistant at your side is still the better answer.

Now picture a different job. A one-page site for a small shop, with photos, some text and a contact button, where the owner wants to change the wording every week without calling a developer. The problem there is not coding skill. It is that nobody wants to be the person who edits the text forever. That is where tools that build the whole site with AI start to earn their place.

Three kinds of AI tools around websites

Before comparing anything, it helps to separate tools that do different jobs. We sort them into three kinds.

Kind 1: the assistant in your hands. AI that completes or explains code while you write it. The project stays entirely yours. We covered this in Want AI to Help You Code? A Practical Guide for Developers and Beginners.

Kind 2: the agent that does the work. AI that reads your project, edits several files and runs commands itself. You still review everything it does. Read more in How to Work with an AI Coding Agent: A Junior Developer's Guide and Claude, Claude Code, & Claude Cowork Deep Dive: Choosing the Right AI Tool for the Job.

Kind 3: the chat-based site builder. You describe the site you want and the system builds and publishes the whole thing. HugWeb belongs here, and this is the kind this article looks at closely, because it is the only one where the site's owner may never see code at all.

Four questions to ask before you choose

We do not claim these four cover everything. They are the four that, in our view, cause the most surprises when skipped.

1. What is the output? Is it a project whose files you can hold, or a site that lives on the provider's system? The two give you very different rights, especially when you want to move.

2. How do you edit it afterwards? Through chat, through an admin screen, or in the code? And who can do it: the site owner, or only a developer?

3. What happens when you stop paying? Does the site stay online, does your data survive, and can you come back by renewing?

4. What does the real cost include? The monthly price alone is not enough. Look at billing cycles, domains, extra languages, and whether the price already includes VAT.

How HugWeb answers the four questions

Everything below comes from the hugweb.app homepage and its terms of use, read on 16 October 2026. The terms page says it was last updated on 8 September 2026 (written as 2569 in the Thai calendar on the page). Prices and terms can change, so open the live pages again before you decide.

What is the output: HugWeb's terms describe the service as building business websites that are "static" with AI. Static means the site is built as ready-made files rather than processed on a server every time someone visits. The homepage says hosting is included. The same terms say, in our translation from the Thai, "you own the content you create; we own the code and templates used to render the website." For a developer, that sentence is the answer to question 1: the content you create is yours, but the code and templates that make up the site belong to HugWeb. As for exporting files to host elsewhere, we could not find any statement about it on these two pages, so we cannot say whether it is possible.

How you edit it: HugWeb says you chat in Thai with its mascot "Nong Mee Muang" to build the site, and that you can edit text and images without touching code. The homepage also says a site can be built in 3 minutes. That figure is HugWeb's own claim, and we have not timed it ourselves.

What happens when you stop paying: According to the terms, if the 7-day free trial ends and you have not subscribed, the site is taken offline while your data is kept, and there is no grace period. Paid plans do not renew automatically, so you must renew yourself. When a paid plan runs out there is a short grace period (the terms do not say how many days), after which the site is taken offline on the next check rather than immediately. Your data is not deleted, and the site can be republished when you renew.

One more term developers should know before subscribing: HugWeb states that it does not refund payments under any circumstances, with an exception for system errors such as a duplicate charge.

What the real cost includes: The homepage shows monthly plans: Starter at ฿399 per month (a one-page site) and Pro at ฿499 per month (a one-page site plus a blog), and states that prices include VAT. It also mentions 6-month and 12-month billing, but we could not find those prices. Your own domain is billed separately per billing cycle, and extra languages are billed per language. The terms give no amounts for either, so we have no figures to offer.

On the trial: HugWeb currently offers a free 7-day trial with all features and no credit card required, according to its homepage on 16 October 2026. The page does not state an end date for this offer, but the terms say prices and plan details can change, so check the homepage again before you try it.

A site built by AI is not always ready to publish

One more thing worth keeping in mind. A chat-based builder gets you a page quickly, but it does not guarantee that every line on that page is correct. The shop name, phone number, address, prices and promotion text are still the job of someone who knows the real details, and they need to check each one before pressing publish, because a live site is what customers see immediately.

Check the scope too. The monthly plans on HugWeb's homepage are for a one-page site (Pro adds a blog). If your site needs memberships, a shopping cart or a custom backend, that is work for Kind 1 or Kind 2 from earlier. And if an agent hands you code, review it the way you would review any pull request.

Summary: Choose Based on Questions, Not Demo Speed

To answer straight and simple:

  • Suitable for chat-based builders like HugWeb: If it's a one-page site or a business portfolio, the owner wants to update text and images themselves, and you are comfortable with the rendering code belonging to the provider rather than you.

  • Skip to Type 1 or Type 2: If the website requires custom logic, independent host migration, or you want full control over every layer of code.

What we want to leave you with is this: before choosing any tool, open their terms of service page and read it yourself, then note down any unanswered questions to ask the provider directly before starting real work. Since HugWeb offers a free trial, building a single one-page site to test these 4 points with real data is the fastest way to evaluate it. Tools only help you start faster; knowing where a project belongs is still your craft.
